This chapter describes the MagicalSketch interface.

Pen
Click and choose the Pen button, then drag the mouse button to draw, erase, cut, make a projection, and smooth lines.
Bend Pen
Click and choose the Bend button, then drag the mouse button to bend, stretch, or round out 3D models created with the pen.
Move Hand
Click and choose the Move hand, then drag the mouse button on the Sketch Book to move the 3D model.
Rotate Hand
Click and choose the Rotate hand, then drag the mouse button on the Sketch Book to rotate the 3D model.
When another tool is selected, dragging the mouse button while holding down the right mouse button Ctrl (Win) / control (Mac) will also rotate the 3D model.
Zoom
Click the Zoom button to choose it, then drag the mouse button on the Sketch Book to magnify/shrink the 3D model. Dragging upward will zoom in, dragging downward will zoom out.
Color Box
The Color Box shows the currently selected color. Drag a color from the Color Box, then drop it on the 3D model or the line to apply that color to the model or line.
Color Palette
Click to choose a color. The selected color will be displayed in the Color Box. Clicking the arrow on either side will scroll to show the colors that are not currently displayed.
Pen points
This is used to choose the width of the pen point. To change the width of the line already drawn, click and select the line, then choose a width from the pen points.
Open
This button is used to open a 3D model previously created with MagicalSketch. The file extension is “.ted.”
Save
You can save the 3D object that you are currently working on with any name. The file extension is “.ted.”
Undo
The Undo button is used to undo up to 20 operations. The Undo operation can also be performed by holding down the Ctrl + Z keys (Win) / control + Z keys (Mac).
Redo
The Redo button is used to redo up to 20 operations that have been undone with the Undo button. The Redo operation can also be performed by holding down the Shift + Ctrl + Z keys (Win) / Shift + control + Z keys (Mac).
Set
Click the Set button to display the Preferences dialog.
Undo/Redo Buffer Size
You can specify the number of levels you can undo and redo, from one to the maximum of 20 by dragging the slider. Increasing the buffer size may cause memory shortages. The default value is 10.
Polygon Division
You can set the division of polygons for a new 3D object created with MagicalSketch from four options: Coarse / Regular / Fine / Very Fine. The default value is Regular.
Rectilinear Height
Drag the slider, or enter an integer ranging from 1 to 1500 to set the rectilinear height. The default value is 150.
Display Mode
Shading
You can choose either sketch display or flat display. The default value is Sketch.
Wireframe
You can choose the wireframe mode when polygons are displayed, as Front Face or Full Wireframe. The default value is Front Face.
Background Display
Color Checkbox
Switch the Color checkbox on and click the Color... button to choose a color. The computer’s standard color-picker with which you can choose the background color will be displayed.
Image Checkbox
Switch the Image checkbox on and click the File... button to select an image. That image is set as the background. You can use BMP files (Win) or PICT files (Mac). Click the Browse button to specify a file. Images are loaded at their actual size.
Just Fit Checkbox
Switch the Just Fit checkbox on to automatically magnify/shrink the background image along with the Sketch Book.
Outlines
Switch the On checkbox on and use the slider to set the level of division of outlines.
Other
Enable Extrusion Mode After Cutting Checkbox
When the Enable Extrusion Mode After Cutting checkbox is on, the Extrusion mode is automatically enabled after a 3D object is cut. Cutting an object while holding down the Shift when the Enable Extrusion Mode After Cutting checkbox is off will show the cross section of the object in red and enable the Extrusion mode.
Play Sound Checkbox
Switching this checkbox on will play amusing sounds while you operate MagicalSketch.
Mirroring Checkbox
Switching on the Mirroring checkbox will reflect the drawn contour as if in a mirror. The mirrored image is a symmetrically-balanced image with an axis connecting the staring point and the endpoint of the drawn line.
Show Button
When you click this button, the display of the 3D object in the MagicalSketch window switches between the shaded and wireframe modes.
Info Button
A menu displaying the version of MagicalSketch appears by clicking this button.
OK Button
Clicking the OK button will export the 3D object you have created into Shade, then close the MagicalSketch window. Objects created with MagicalSketch will be exported to Shade as MagicalSketch parts.
Cancel Button
Clicking the Cancel button will close the MagicalSketch window without exporting the object to Shade. |
