SmartKinematics is designed to work together with Inverse Kinematics (IK) to provide precise control over the posing and animation of complex joints.

To open SmartKinematics choose View > SmartKinematics.

Contents

Attribute Settings

Specifies the attributes for the joints with Inverse Kinematics (IK) applied.

Delete Attributes

Removes the Root, Goal, and End SmartKinematics attributes from the selected joint.

Root

Root is the parent attribute in the hierarchy.

Goal

Goal is the end of the IK chain.

End

End is the end of the IK chain below Goal in the hierarchy.

Apply Checkboxes

Applies the Root, Goal or End attributes to the selected joint.

Enable Checkboxes

Enables the Root, Goal or End attributes for the selected joint.

Inverse Kinematics

Specifies the Inverse Kinematics behavior.

Enable Checkbox

Enables inverse kinematics (IK).

Resample Position Button

If the Goal or End joint has been separated from the constraint position, moves the joint position back to the constraint position.

Constraint of Selected Joints Menu

Selects the type of constraint used for IK on the selected joint. Normal means that the Goal or End joint will move as little as possible. Half means that only the joints below the selected joint are constrained. Free means that the selected joint is not constrained.

Preserve End Angle Checkbox

When active, the Goal joint and its child parts will follow the movement while keeping the angle of the End joint the same.

IK Snap

When using IK, the End joint will be snapped to the ground automatically when it is within a certain tolerance when IK Snap is active.

Enable Checkbox

Enables IK Snap.

Ground Textbox

Specifies the height of the ground.

Cursor Button

Sets the height of the ground for IK snap to the current position of the 3D cursor.

End Button

Sets the height of the ground for IK snap to the current position of the End joint. If there is more than one End joint, the height of the ground is set to the closest End joint.

Cleanup

In some cases it may be necessary to correct for a slipping effect seen with walking motions.

Enable Checkbox

Enables the Cleanup function.

Calculate Button

Reduces the slipping effect by correcting the space between motion points.

Motion Range

Specifies the active range for the Cleanup function.

Disable Button

Specifies the motion points that Cleanup will ignore.

Enable Button

Specifies the active motion points for Cleanup.

Ground

Sets the ground height for the Cleanup function. Select either Auto or Numerical. |
