Shade 10 The Background Window
From ShadeCamp
The Background window contains all the settings for creating and modifying the image that appears in the background of the a rendered scene. To open the Background window, click the cloud icon in the Aggregate palette or choose View > Background.
Upper Base Color Box
This color box enables you to display and set the base color of the upper hemisphere. A pattern or an image of the mapping color is synthesized on top of this base color. The synthesis technique can be set in the Synthesis pull-down menu.
Lower Base Color Box
This color box enables you to display and set the base color of the lower hemisphere. A pattern or an image of the mapping color is synthesized on top of this base color. The synthesis technique can be set in the Synthesis pull-down menu.
Load Button
This button enables you to load background window settings from a background file.
Save Button
The current background window settings are saved as a background file.
Lighting Factor Slider and Text Box
Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to set the lighting factor of the background in a relative value.
This setting is only available when Path tracing is chosen in the G.I. (Global Illumination) tab, and the Reflect background checkbox in the Basics tab is switched on.
Picture Box
This box previews the selected hemisphere, background color, layers or patterns, mapping color, density, and size, and is also used to load and display background pictures.
Layer Pull-down Menu
You can choose the number of the layer to which the pattern is applied. The density of each layer can be changed to set multiple mappings.
Texture Pattern Pull-down Menu
This pop-up is used to choose the pattern that is to be applied to the currently selected layer.
Mapping Color Box
This color box sets the background color and the pattern color to merge, or the color of the margin appended to the periphery of a picture using the Set Area window.
Area Pull-down Menu
The range of pattern set for the selected layer is specified by this pull-down menu. Whole sphere will apply the pattern to both the upper and lower hemispheres.
Projection Pull-down Menu
The mapping technique for the pattern applied to the selected layer is chosen with this pull-down menu.
Planar
The background is mapped onto a plane.
Spherical 1 and Spherical 2
These items are available if Image is chosen as the mapping pattern, and maps the background by extending the image 360 degrees horizontally and vertically from the center point. With the Sphere 2 setting, you can also set the polarity of mapping using the pull-down menu provided on the right side. For details about the polarity of mapping, refer to the “Shade User’s Guide.”
Premultiplied Alpha Checkbox
Switching this checkbox on will ignore the alpha channel of the layer to blend the color of the layer with the background color or the pattern below. When this checkbox is off, the alpha channel value of the pixel is multiplied by the value of the mapping slider. This checkbox is not activated if a pattern other than image is chosen.
Flip Horizontal Checkbox
You can flip the picture mapping horizontally.
Flip Vertical Checkbox
You can flip the picture mapping vertically. Interchange Length and Breadth Checkbox You can rotate the orientation of the picture mapping 90 degrees.
Synthesis Pull-down Menu
You can choose the synthesis method for the layer from this pull-down menu.
Normal
This option blends the pattern with the background color or the pattern below, according to the mapping slider value when the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is on. When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is off, the alpha channel value of the pixel is multiplied by the value of the mapping slider.
Alpha blend
When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is off, this option blends the background color or the pattern below with the image, using the alpha channel as a mask. When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is on, this option will ignore the alpha channel.
Add
This option blends the pattern of the layer with the background color or the pattern below by means of additive synthesis when the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is on. The result of this synthesis is often bright. When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is off, the alpha channel value of the pixel is multiplied by the value of the mapping slider.
Subtract
This option blends the pattern of the layer with the background color or the pattern below by means of subtractive synthesis when the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is on. The result of this synthesis is often dark. When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is off, the alpha channel value of the pixel is multiplied by the value of the mapping slider.
Multiply
This option blends the pattern of the layer with the background color or the pattern below by means of multiplicative synthesis when the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is on. The result of this synthesis is often dark. When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is off, the alpha channel value of the pixel is multiplied by the value of the mapping slider.
Max
When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is on, this option compares the diffuse color or the pattern of the lower layer with the alpha channel as a mask, and performs synthesis by prioritizing the brighter part. The result of this synthesis is often bright.
Min
When the Premultiplied Alpha checkbox is on, this option compares the diffuse color or the pattern of the lower layer with the alpha channel as a mask, and performs synthesis by prioritizing the darker part. The result of this synthesis is often dark.
Mapping Slider and Text Box
Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to set the density of the pattern.
Density Slider and Text Box
These items become available when Cloud is applied to the pattern. Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to set the density of the Cloud texture. Lighter clouds appear with smaller values, and a clear sky appears as the value becomes zero.
Size Slider and Text Box
These items are used to set the size of the pattern. Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box.
Anisotropic Slider and Text Box
These items are used to set the direction of the pattern. Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box. |
