Shade 10 The Browser

In the Browser you can hierarchically select objects, view the hierarchical structure of objects, rearrange objects within the hierarchy, and find objects by their names.
Select Parent Button
The parent of the selected object is chosen. The same result can be obtained by typing the left arrow key on the keyboard.
Select Child Button
The eldest brother in the child hierarchy of the selected object is chosen. The same result can be obtained by typing the right arrow key on the keyboard.
Select Younger Brother Button
The younger brother of the selected object is chosen. The same result can be obtained by typing the down arrow key on the keyboard.
Select Older Brother Hierarchy Button
The older brother of the selected object is chosen. The same result can be obtained by typing the up arrow key on the keyboard.
Select Upper/Lower Candidate Button
Drag to select an area within the Figure window with no other key held down to select objects within the dragged area. Clicking the arrow pointing left will select upper candidate objects, while clicking the arrow pointing right will select lower candidate objects.
Active Button
If a selected object is hidden in the Browser window, clicking this button will reveal the currently selected objects. The Object Selection box is scrolled vertically if need be, and if a selected object is hidden inside a closed part, the part is opened.
Find Button
This button is used to display the Find window. The Find window enables you to find, select and replace objects and parts under certain conditions.
Find Text Box
Enter the name, in whole or in part, of the object to look for, in this text box. Objects and parts containing the entered string are the subjects of this operation.
Type Pull-down Menu
This pull-down menu enables you to set the condition for the search. Choose a type of object or part to search for.
Choosing a type from the pull-down menu will search within the currently selected objects only.
Choosing Shape from the pull-down menu will search for shape objects. Another pull-down menu will appear on the right hand side, from which a target can be chosen from All, Line, Closed Line, Open Line, Disk, Sphere, PolygonMesh, Camera, Extruded, and Revolved.
Choosing Light from the pull-down menu will specify lights as the search target. Another pull-down menu will appear on the right hand side, from which a target can be chosen from All, Point Light, Spot Light, Area Light, or Liner Light.
Choosing Part from the pull-down menu will specify parts as the search target. Another pull-down menu will appear on the right hand side, from which a target can be chosen from All, Part, or Curved Surface.
Choosing Joint from the pull-down menu will specify joints as the search target. Another pull-down menu will appear on the right hand side, from which a target can be chosen from All, Rotator, Slider, Scale, Uni-scale, Ball Joint, Light, Path, or Morph.
Choosing Link from the pull-down menu will specify linked objects as the search target.
Diffuse Checkbox and Color Box
Switching the checkbox on will activate the color box, in which you can specify the diffuse color of the target objects.
Find Button
Clicking the Find button will start the search from the currently selected object in the Browser window downward, and the first object or part which corresponds to the search criteria will be displayed. The search is only conducted downward.
Find All Button
Clicking the Find All button will start the search from the currently selected object in the Browser window downward, and all objects or parts which correspond to the search criteria will be displayed.
Replace Text Box
The Replace tab is used to replace the object names in accordance with the search criteria.
Replace Text Box
Enter the new name to be used for the replace. The names of the objects or parts found by the specified search criteria will be replaced with the new name.
Replace Button
Clicking the Replace button will replace the name of the first object or part found by the specified search with the name entered in the Replace text box.
Replace All Button
Clicking the Replace All button will replace the names of all objects or parts found by the specified search with the name entered in the Replace text box.
Numbering
Numbering is used to automatically append a number after the names of the objects or parts, according to the order in which they are found, for all objects or parts found by the specified search.
Add and Remove Buttons
Clicking the Add button will automatically append a number after the names of the objects or parts, for all objects or parts found by the specified search. The numbers starts with 1. Clicking the Delete button will delete all numbers appended by the Add button at once.
Flip Face Checkbox
This checkbox is used to flip faces.
Solid Checkbox
This checkbox is used to determine the number of times the eyes intersect with each other, by assuming that objects with the Transparency setting and the Solid setting are solid. Click the box while holding down the Ctrl key (Win) / Option key (Mac) to force the setting on the child hierarchy.
Render Checkbox
An object with this checkbox in the active-on state will be rendered regardless of the object selection state. When in the active-off state, the object will never be rendered. Click the box while holding down the Ctrl key (Win) / Option key (Mac) to force the setting on the child hierarchy.
Bind Checkbox
The Bind checkbox is shown for parts only. When joints themselves are active, they can be bound to objects. When the checkbox is off, joints will not be bound. When inactive, the setting for the upper hierarchy is inherited. Click the box while holding down the Ctrl key (Win) / Option key (Mac) to force the setting on the child hierarchy.
Rough Checkbox
The Wireframe is rendered by turning on this checkbox. This checkbox does not effect the Smooth Shading in quick rendering. When inactive, the setting for the upper hierarchy is inherited. Clicking the box while holding down the Ctrl key (Win) / Option key (Mac) to force the setting on the child hierarchy.
Group Selection Checkbox
The Group Selection checkbox is shown for parts only. Switching this checkbox on will group the objects within that part, and when any of the objects in the group are selected in the Figure window, then the entire part (all objects within the group) will be selected.
Showing/hiding Checkboxes
The triangular button on the upper right of the Browser window is used to show/hide the checkboxes.
Name Dialog
The Name dialog is displayed by double-clicking the object name box in the Browser window, or by choosing the item from the Context menu of the Figure window or the Browser window. The name entered in the Name dialog is given to the selected object.
Special Characters
The following special characters can be used at the beginning of an object name to control certain operations. A list of these special characters is also available in the Quick Reference. The special characters must be entered as single-byte characters, otherwise they will not function.
Boolean Characters
- This character cuts off any portions of other objects which overlap, and applies the surface attributes of the object to which “*” is set. The object with “*” set is not rendered.
- This character creates a hole in any part which this part overlaps. The object with “*” set is not rendered.
+ This character negates “*” and “-.”
= This character applies the surface attributes of the object to which “=” is set, onto the part which is overlapping another object. The object with “=” set is not rendered.
! This character negates “*,” “-,” and “=.”
^ This character negates “=.”
& The same effect as “=” is applied, except for this character, the effect is restricted to the objects contained in the same hierarchy in the Figure window. By combining this with other Boolean characters, the effect will be limited to the objects contained in the same hierarchy.
\ Logical sum. The part where an object and an object with “\” set overlap will not be rendered.
$ Logical difference. Only the part where an object and an object with “\” set overlap will be rendered.
Surface Subdivision
@ No subdivision
> Subdivide one level coarser
< Subdivide one level finer
Suppress Rendering
- Objects with “#” set are not rendered.
Suppress Selection in the Figure Window
- Objects with “#” set cannot be selected in the Figure window.
Skip Inverse Kinematics
% Objects and parts with “%” set will not be affected by Inverse Kinematics.
Pause Data
| Setting “|” will specify objects as the targets for importing and exporting pause data.
Plug & Socket
_ Setting “_” will make the objects into parts for Plug & Socket functions. |
