Lattice Deformer
Lattice Deformer Overview
The Lattice Deformer plug-in is a Modify plug-in that indirectly deforms a shape by editing the Lattice which surrounds the shape.
Using the Lattice Deformer Plugin
1. Select the object you want to transform. Since the plug-in does not support multiple selection, put multiple shapes/parts together into one part and deform the part. It also does not support the Root Part.
The types of shape you can deform with the plug-in are line objects, curved surfaces, and polygon meshes. The plug-in does not support extruded or revolved objects. ‘’When a closed line is lattice-deformed with this plugin, all the points may no longer exist on the same plane. In this case, the closed lines will not render properly.’’ 2. Select the Lattice Deformer option from the Modify tool in the Toolbox.
3. The Prepare for Lattice Deformation dialog is displayed.
In this dialog, set the division step parameter for each axis (X, Y, and Z) that will be used for the deformation Lattice, and click the OK button.
4. A deformation Lattice is automatically created, and the preparation for deforming is completed.
In the Browser window, a number of parts or shapes are created.
When the preparation for Lattice deformation is finished, the parts are automatically displayed in the Browser window in their collapsed view and the deformation Lattice (#Lattice1) is selected. Next, edit the deformation Lattice (#Lattice1). Since this Lattice is a polygon mesh, it should be edited using the points in modify mode. 5. Choose the Modify Control Points option from the Modify tool in the Toolbox and edit the deformation Lattice as needed.
6. When you finish editing the deformation Lattice, with the deformation Lattice selected, choose Lattice Deformer again from the Modify tool.
The Lattice deformation will start.
Objects after the Lattice deformation If the process takes much time, the Progress Bar window will be displayed. If you click the Cancel button, before the process is finished, the shape will be partially deformed. To deform the shape again, select the Lattice Deformer option from the Modify tool in the Toolbox (or from the Modify submenu of the Tools menu or the contextual menu) again. When the process is completed, the deformed shape is automatically selected.
Lattice Deformer Reference
Entries Related to the Lattice Deformation in the Browser
All objects related to the Lattice deformation are placed in the Lattice Deformer part.
- Original objects part contains the original shape.
- Below the “Original objects part” entry, the name of the shape (part) selected prior to the deformation is displayed. This shape is deformed.
- Lattice1 is the Lattice shape to which the deformation is applied.
‘’Editing the hierarchy of the Lattice Deformer part or adding and deleting control points of Lattice Deformer objects may make further Lattice Deformer operations impossible.’’
Repeating the Lattice Deformation Operation
The Lattice deformation can be repeated by first selecting and editing the Lattice deformation shape and then selecting the Lattice Deformer again. Assigning this plug-in to one of the shortcuts lets you use it more quickly. When you are finished deforming the shape, you may move the deformed shape out of the part related to the Lattice, and delete that part.
Reverting to the Original Shape
If you want to return to the original pre-deformed shape, expand the #Original objects part and take the original shape out of it, then delete the part containing the Lattice.
