Line Cut and Connect

Line Cut and Connect Overview

This plug-in performs a cut or connect operation on a line object. The cut portion is not deleted.

Using Line Cut

1. Select the line you wish to cut.

Note: ‘’This function is not available for cutting parts.’’ 2. Choose Cut Curves from the Modify tool.

3. In the Figure window, drag a line across the selected object.

4. The object separated by the line you dragged is cut.

The cutting line remains, shown as a grey line. After the Line Cut, the following parts are added to the Browser: delete it This is the line used for the cut operation. cut-off curves’ part This part contains the components after the cut. cut-off curve The two segments that have been divided.

Using Line Connect

1. Select the line objects you wish to connect. Three selection methods are possible: Selecting the control points at the ends of two separate line objects will create one open line. Selecting multiple line objects will create a single curved surface. Selecting the edges of two curved surfaces will combine them into a single curved surface. 2. Choose the Connection option from the Modify tool in the Toolbox.

3. The result of the Line Connect on the selection method described above. Control points at the ends of two separate line objects are selected:

The two original line objects are combined to produce an open line shape. ‘’If the control point handles to the other line object, the two line objects will be connected by a straight line.’’ Multiple line objects are selected:

‘’Line objects are connected in the order displayed in the Browser.’’ When the line objects to be connected have different numbers of control points, connection is done using the line object with the fewest control points. The other objects’ control points that exceed this number will be lost. Thus, a line object with more control points than the line object with the fewest points will be truncated by the connection operation.

Connecting line objects with different numbers of control points. Two curved surfaces are connected:

The two curved surfaces are connected across the selected edge. ‘’If the control point handles of both edges do not point towards each other, to the other curved surface, the two will be connected across a straight line, not across the curved edge.’’
