Shade 9 The Control Bar

The Control Bar is located at the top of the Figure window, and enables you to specify various settings related to what is displayed in the Figure window. Choose Control Bar from the View menu to show/hide the Control Bar. You can also customize the functions displayed in the Control Bar. Most of the functions provided by the Control Bar can also be accessed from the Figure menu.
3D Coordinate Value Counters
The coordinate values of the 3D cursor are displayed as X, Y, and Z counters.
Distance Counter
The distance from the position where the mouse button is pressed to the position of the 3D cursor is displayed when the Relative checkbox is off. Otherwise, the length of the drag is displayed.
Dot Counter
The distance between adjacent dots on the monitor is displayed here. A dot is the minimum unit of distance the mouse pointer can move. When the units are mm, a Dot counter value of 10 indicates that the dot distance is 10 mm. This means the Mouse pointer can move in units of 10 mm.
Units Pull-down Menu
In this pull-down menu, you can select the units used in the Figure window (mm, cm, m, km, inches, feet, yards, and miles).
Relative Checkbox
Switching this checkbox on will display the 3D Coordinates as relative values from the position where you last clicked the mouse cursor. Switching this checkbox off will display absolute values from the global coordinate origin.
Display Menu
This menu changes the display of the view planes in the Figure window. It is set to Shared by default.
Side
The Figure window shows the side view only.
Top
The Figure window shows the top view only.
Front
The Figure window shows the front view only.
Pers
The Figure window shows the perspective view only.
The Figure window is divided into four sections to display all views of the object.
Snap Checkbox
This causes the 3D cursor to “snap” to the grid intersections, as well as to points half-way between them. The 3D cursor location is restricted to units of 1/2 the grid width by switching this checkbox on. Otherwise, the cursor moves in units of one dot.
Grid Checkbox
This switch displays the reference Grid lines. The grid width is ten times the Dot counter value, and the colors of the grid lines and coordinate axes can be set freely in the Preferences dialog.
Perspective Grid Checkbox
Grid lines are displayed in the Perspective view by switching this checkbox on.
The Pers view shows the main grid line and the coordinate axes.
Safe zone Checkbox
The safe zone (used for video output) is displayed in the Pers view by switching this checkbox on. Enter the percentage of the safe zone with respect to the image size in the text box.
Large Cursor Checkbox
This checkbox causes the 3D cursor to change into crosshairs that stretch completely across the view planes.
Large Point Checkbox
You can make the control points large or small.
Plane Pull-down Menu
This is where you can set how the 3D cursor moves in
the Pers view.YZ
The coordinate value of the X-axis is locked when the 3D cursor is moved in the Pers view.
XZ
The coordinate value of the Y-axis is locked when the 3D cursor is moved in the Pers view.
XY
The coordinate value of the Z-axis is locked when the 3D cursor is moved in the Pers view.
Screen
The 3D cursor moves on a plane which is perpendicular to the eye, when the cursor moves in the Pers view.
Local Button
Clicking this button will display the Figure window in the local coordinate system of the selected object.
Global Button
Clicking this button will display the Figure window in the global coordinate system, which is the default.
Multi - handle Checkbox
Control points that are selected simultaneously in the MODIFY mode can be edited by switching this checkbox on.
Numeric Button
Clicking this button will display the Numeric Coordinate Input dialog, where you can enter the location of the vertex of a line object.
Numeric Dialog
This dialog is displayed by clicking the Numeric button in the Control Bar or by choosing Numeric from the Figure menu.
You can enter line object anchor points numerically using this box. You can open this dialog during input operations with the create (this is called Numeric Input mode). You can also close the box and continue
entering points with the mouse.Relative Checkbox
Switching this checkbox on will display the coordinate entered in the X, Y, and Z text boxes as values relative to the position of the 3D cursor.
Switching this checkbox off will display absolute values (from the origin).
X, Y, and Z Text Boxes
Coordinate values for each axis are entered here.
Done Button
Click this button to exit the Numeric Input mode, and continue to enter control points using the Create tool.
Press the finish button in the Tool Box to finish entering the line objects.
Move Cursor Button
Click this button to move the 3D cursor to the coordinates entered in the X, Y, and Z text boxes.
Input Button
An anchor point is created at the coordinates entered in the X, Y, and Z text boxes by clicking the Input button.
Closed Line Button
This button should be clicked at the beginning. Click this button to set the type of line object to be created to “closed line.” This step is not necessary if the dialog is opened during input using the Create tool.
Open Line Button
This button should be clicked at the beginning. Click this button to set the type of line object to be created to “open line.” This step is not necessary if the dialog is opened during input using the Create tool.
Template
Templates can be shown/hidden, or deleted.
Show Checkbox
This box is used to switch on/off the template in the Figure window. Template is displayed when this checkbox is switched on.
Delete Button
A loaded template can be deleted using this button.
FPS Counter (frame counter)
The drawing speed of the Figure window is displayed in units of fps (frames per second). Customizing the
Control Bar
Clicking in an empty space in the Control Bar (for instance, to the right of the Delete button) will show a pull-down menu that enables you to choose the items to be displayed.
Choosing items from the menu will show/hide those items. Items with a check mark are the items that are displayed in the Control Bar. |
