The Correction window

Simple adjustments to intensity, contrast, color balance, and saturation of an image to be rendered are performed in the Correction window.

The color correction settings will be applied to the next rendered image, not the existing one.

Contents

Gain Slider and Text Box

Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to specify the intensity of the overall image to be rendered, as a real number ranging from 0 to 2.

Gamma Slider and Text Box

Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to specify the intensity of the mid-tones of the image to be rendered, as a real number ranging from 0 to 2.

Contrast Slider and Text Box

Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to specify the amount of contrast correction, as a real number ranging from 0 to 2.

Bias Slider and Text Box

Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to change the intensity of the overall image without modifying the gradient of the contrast.

Keep saturation Checkbox

Switch this checkbox on to change the intensity while retaining the R, G, and B ratio.

Before and After Previews

In the initial state, white spheres appear in these previews. However, once you render an image, thumbnails of the Image window are displayed here. The After preview shows the corrected image.

Tone Curve

This is the color correction curve. The vertical axis indicates the color after correction, called the output level, whereas the horizontal axis indicates the color before correction, called the input level. The corrected image has stronger contrast when the Tone curve gets closer to being vertical, and it becomes flatter as the Tone curve gets closer to being horizontal. The color gets brighter when the Tone curve is higher, and it is darker when the curve is lower. You cannot change the Tone curve directly.

Color Scale

This scale shows how color is associated with the Tone curve. You cannot change the Color scale directly.

Color Slider and Text Box

Drag the slider or enter an appropriate value in the text box to change the saturation of the colors specified in the Highlight, Mid-tone, and Shadow color disks. When the value is 0, no color balance correction will be made.

Highlight Color Disk

You can correct the color balance in the luminosity of highlights. Click a disk, or drag the black square pointer to specify the R, G, and B ratio (hue). Click a disk while holding the Ctrl (Win) / option (Mac) to display your computer’s standard color-picker dialog. You can then select a color using that dialog.

Mid-Tone Color Disk

You can correct the color balance in the luminosity of mid-tones. Click a disk, or drag the black square pointer to specify the R, G, and B ratio (hue). Click a disk while holding the Ctrl (Win) / option (Mac) to display your computer’s standard color-picker dialog. You can then select a color using that dialog.

Shadow Color Disk

You can correct the color balance in the luminosity of shadows. Click a disk, or drag the black square pointer to specify the R, G, and B ratio (hue). Click a disk while holding the Ctrl (Win) / option (Mac) to display your computer’s standard color-picker dialog. You can then select a color using that dialog.

Link Checkbox

You can choose the same hue for the Highlight, Midtone, and Shadow disks by switching on this checkbox. The pointers in each disk will be interlocked.
